Mariposa

This butterfly was, yes you guessed it, seen at the Butterfly Garden. This species is feeding from the nectar of a flower with its proboscis. It's like an exteded mouth that can reach into the flower and drink its nectar. If you've ever seen a butterfly you may know what I'm talking about. When there not drinking it usually curls like an elephant trunk. A butterfly also tastes with its feet, allowing it to taste and deteremine whether it will feed on a particullar flower just by landing on it. Another little tid bit: a butterfly can fly with up to 75% of its wings damaged or missing.
