Blue Morpho
Posted by Sean Ryan August 11, 2004

Yes i know this butterfly is brown. But this is only because it's wings are closed. It is a defensive tactic used by the butterfly. If you look cafefully the pattern mimics an eye. While in flight the two wings create a set of eyes just like a predatory bird. It's hidden color on the back of it's wings is revealed, with many vibrant blues, hence the name blue morpho. You can find this butterfly in Monte Verde, and if you really want to make it easy just visit the butterfly farm, where you can find about 30 in a single room.
