Golden Orb Spider

This photograph was taken on a hike to a beach in Cabo Blanco where we encountered her on our path. She was about 3 inches long. The colors on her back are of brilliant greens, yellows, and light blues. Her web is the strongest of all spider webs. She builds a protective outer web that can actually stop a bird from crashing into her main web. Along her web are a few small male spiders about the size of a penny. You may of seen this spider before if you've seen the movie 12 Monkeys. It is the same spider that Bruce Willis swallows in the insane assylum.
