Praying Mantis

Another insect that uses camouflage to its advantage is the praying mantis. However his reasons are a little different. He uses his camouflage and mimicking abilities to blend in to his surroundings, but with the purpose of catching prey as well as hiding from predators. The praying mantis goes un-seen to become a more successful predator. If your prey can’t see you it's a lot easier to ambush them, which is exactly what this insect does. The mantis stands still in wait for a potential meal to walk within reach and then uses it forelegs (praying posture) and grabs its victim, and bites its neck incapacitating it. This species of praying mantis was found in Cabo Blanco near the lab room by the student sleeping quarters. (some mantis camouflage as flowers)
